Orthodontics
Forest Grove, OR

The alignment of your teeth can be important to your dental health. Crooked teeth are more than just an aesthetic problem, it can be a domino effect of multiple issues, including jaw pain, ear pain and even migraines. We can review your situation and make necessary recommendations based on your needs. Today, there are several options for shifting the alignment of your teeth, some options involve less time and some are done with a nearly invisible look.

The Importance of Orthodontics

Determining your need for orthodontics begins with an examination. We will use diagnostic tools, including the patient’s medical and dental health history, along with x-rays, a plaster mold and photos to decide if orthodontics is needed. Common biting issues include an overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, a misplaced midline, teeth that are gapped, or overcrowded. All of these issues can be corrected.

Our team at Smith Dental know that a beautiful smile enhances your look, your confidence and your oral health.
•  Your Look: People recognize a beautiful smile. Whether socially, or in business, or in personal life, our smile says a lot about us. When a person has a beautiful smile, it brightens your whole face.
•  Your Confidence: A beautiful smile can greatly enhance your self confidence. People who have crooked front teeth often become self-conscious about their smile. This is when we see patients who tell us that they close their lips when they smile, or cover their mouths when they laugh. Some even avoid speaking around strangers in order to hide their teeth. We can help rebuild that confidence.
•  Your Health: Correcting bite issues, and alignment, can help with TMJ issues, jaw soreness, and even ear pain and migraines.

Braces Starting Early

We like to meet with children around age 7 to predict possible bite problems. At this age we can review their jaw growth, if there is space for teeth to come in, and determine if intervention is needed. Some patients may need to have some primary teeth removed, or have spaces placed to assist in teeth coming in correctly. Making simple adjustments early can lead to a better bite later.

Invisalign Aligners

Invisalign is a modern take on traditional metal braces that many adult patients prefer. Instead of brackets and wires, this system uses a customized series of plastic aligners. Together, we will determine the ideal placement of your teeth, and then order this system from a dental lab. Patients love that Invisalign is clear, removable for those special events, and requires very few dental office visits.

Six Month Smiles

The Six Month Smile system uses clear bracket braces, along with clear wires, for the front teeth. This is often recommended to our adult patients who want the cosmetic look of straighter teeth, without the look of traditional metal braces.

The Six Month Smile system is a fast solution because our focus is not on the entire mouth, but only the front eight teeth, four on top and/or four on bottom. The Six Month Smiles system is intended for cosmetic changes, it will not correct a severe overbite or underbite.
