Problems with Reviews
The main problem with reviews is that you are never sure if they were written legitimately. For example, the New York Times reported that a restaurant was scheduled to open in Chicago but had not yet opened. A man went to go to the restaurant, discovered it was closed, got mad and wrote a one star review. The restaurant hadn't even opened yet. Did he go there? Yes. Was he served? No. And on and on it goes.
Another problem with online reviews is that people are getting paid to write them. That's right. Freelance writing is a huge business these days and everyone from restaurants to products of many kinds are paying people to write five star reviews of their product, business or service. Have the people that write these reviews used the product or visited the business? No. They just wrote the review.
There are now cases of people who provide services, such as doctors and dentists, who include in the treatment agreement a clause that prohibits the patient from writing any reviews under threat of litigation. Read those agreements carefully because this may start happening more frequently. If you have any questions, or if you would like to learn more, please call us today at (503) 746-9361.
